Faculty Position in Electrical and Computer Engineering

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the University of Pittsburgh, (www.engr.pitt.edu/electrical) invites applications in anticipation of two positions for tenure stream professors at either the assistant or associate level. The Department is especially seeking candidates who will fill our Core Needs in (1) "Communications, Controls, or Signal Processing" and (2) "Computer Engineering," and whose demonstrated research can contribute to one of the following Swanson School of Engineering Focus Areas:  "Energy," "Bioengineering," "Manufacturing" (including RFID), "Sustainability,"  or "Nanoscience and Engineering."  The approximate start date will be Sept. 1, 2009. 

ECE currently has 22 full time faculty members with approximately 350 undergraduates and 120 graduate students.  The department offers BS, MS, and PhD degrees in Electrical Engineering and partners with the Department of Computer Science to offer BS, MS and PhD degrees in Computer Engineering.    

The ECE Dept. is well equipped with state of the art laboratories for both teaching and research.  Research areas include Radio Frequency Systems, Photonics, Nanotechnology, Embedded Systems, Low Power Computer Architectures, Mixed Technology Microsystems, Video, Audio and Biomedical Signal Processing, Communications, Automatic Control, and Power System Analysis.  Annual research expenditures exceed $2.5 million.

The ECE Department is one of six departments in the Swanson School of Engineering (currently undergoing a $100 million renovation)that also includes Bioengineering, Chemical and Petroleum Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science.

The University of Pittsburgh (Pitt) is among the top public universities in the country.  Pitt’s Oakland campus is near downtown and part of an affordable and scenic metropolitan area that has many amenities including major sports, theatre, opera, ballet, symphony, museums, zoo, outdoor activities, festivals, etc.
