Undergraduate Curriculum Concentrations

Computers

To fulfill the computer concentration requirements, a student must complete one design course from the following design courses.

  • ECE 1161 EMBEDDED COMPUTER SYSTEM DESIGN
  • ECE 1193 VLSI DESIGN
  • ECE 1896 SENIOR DESIGN PROJECT
  • ECE/COE 1898 INDEPENDENT STUDY (FOR DESIGN)

A student must take five (5) additional COE electives from the following list:

  • CS/COE 0401 INTERMEDIATE PROGRAMMING USING JAVA
  • CS/COE 0445 DATA STRUCTURES
  • COE/ECE 1185 COMPUTER SYSTEMS INTERFACING
  • COE/ECE 1186 SOFTWARE ENGINEERING
  • ECE 1160 INTRODUCTION TO EMBEDDED SYSTEM DESIGN
  • ECE 1192 INTRODUCTION TO VLSI
  • CS/COE 1501 ALGORITHM IMPLEMENTATION
  • CS/COE 1520 PROGRAMMING LANGUAGES
  • CS/COE 1550 INTRODUCTION TO OPERATING SYSTEMS
  • CS/COE 1541 INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTER ARCHITECTURE

 

Electronics (Circuits and Devices)

To fulfill the electronics concentration requirements, a student must include the following two electrical engineering courses as EE electives:

  • ECE 1238 DIGITAL ELECTRONICS
  • ECE 1266 APPLICATIONS OF FIELD AND WAVES

A student must also include two (2) courses from the following group:

  • ECE 1232 INTRODUCTION TO LASERS AND OPTICAL ELECTRONICS
  • ECE 1236 ELECTRONIC DESIGN WITH INTEGRATED CIRCUITS
  • ECE 1286 ANALYSIS AND DESIGN OF ANALOG INTEGRATED CIRCUITS

A student must take one design elective of the following courses:

  • ECE/COE 1896 SENIOR DESIGN PROJECT
  • ECE 1161 EMBEDDED COMPUTER SYSTEM DESIGN
  • ECE 1193 VLSI DESIGN

POWER

To fulfill the area of concentration in power, a student must complete the following three electrical engineering courses:

  • ECE 1673 Linear Control Systems
  • ECE 1769 Power Systems Analysis 1
  • ECE 1771 Electric Machines

And one additional elective from the following courses:

  • MEMS 0051 Thermodynamics
  • ENGR 1700 Introduction to Nuclear Engineering
  • ECE 1700 Construction and Cost of Electrical Supply
  • ECE 2250 Power Electronics (requires permission of instructor)

Telecommunications

For a BS in electrical engineering with a concentration in telecommunications/signal processing, a student must include the following electrical engineering courses as EE electives:

  • ECE 1472 COMMUNICATION THEORY
  • ECE 1473 DIGITAL COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS
  • ECE 1562 DIGITAL AND ANALOG FILTERS
  • ECE 1266 APPLICATION OF FIELD AND WAVES
  • Either ECE 1232 LASERS AND OPTICS or ECE 2523 DIGITAL SIGNAL PROCESSING

The design elective must be:

  • ECE/COE 1896 SENIOR DESIGN PROJECT

Two technical electives must be from the following TELCOM graduate courses:

  • TELCOM 2120 NETWORK PERFORMANCE
  • TELCOM 2222 PHOTONIC COMMUNICATIONS
  • TELCOM 2225 SWITCHING SYSTEMS
  • TELCOM 2310 COMPUTER NETWORKS

Written permission is required from the telecommunications program before registering for any TELCOM class.
